New frontiers in refugee and force‚„ migrant studies(2010-2012)

[Project Leader]Kei Hakata (Associate Professor, Faculty of Humanities)

By implementing a comprehensive study on the situation of refugees and forced migrants, and on the policy and academic trends concerning them, this multidisciplinary research project aims to establish Forced Migration Studies as an academic discipline, while raising general understanding of the issues within Japanese society.

Representations of "Japan" in the modern era and the Asian and Pacific Geopolitics.(2010-2012)

[Project Leader]Fuhito Endo (Professor, Faculty of Humanities)

To historicize representations of "Japan" in the modern era wihtin the context(s) of the Asian and Pacific Geopolitics.

Invention of identities and development pluralism---from the perspective of Asia/China.(2010-2012)

[Project Leader]Tomiko Yuyama (Professor, Faculty of Law)

This project, by surveying the present situation of Asian developing countries, especially China, examines the possibility of and its philosophical drive for founding cultural and social pluralism in the world growing border-less under the concept of globalization. It also discusses how the intellectual interaction between Asia and the West would make it feasible to propose a kind of Asian uniqueness vis-a-vis Western trend of "globalization".

Research on discretionary contributive behaviors of employees, customers, and citizens for organizations(2011-2013)

[Project Leader]Yutaka Ueda (Professor, Faculty of Economics)

This study will focus on discretionary contributive behavior of employees, and customers and their interactions for an organization, and empirically investigates the antecedents and consequences of those behaviors.

Evaluation of recycling utilization technologies of waste concrete in China(2011-2013)

[Project Leader]Akihiro Yamazaki (Professor, Faculty of Science and Technology)

The applicability of waste concrete to environment improvement technology is investigated in China. The utilization of waste concrete to desertification soil and heavy metal polluted soil will be examined as the new effective technology except for CCS(carbon capture and storage), dry FGD(flue gas desulfurization) , and phosphorus recovery in sewage water. In addition, these technologies will evaluated from the point of energy and cost.

The comparative study on media in Japan and Korea : How are information and culture made by media and accepted among both people?(2012-2014)

[Project Leader] Masahiro Okuno (Professor, Faculty of Humanities)

The purposes of this research project are to realiza media condition and production and acceptance of information and culture in Japan and Korea, and also to contribute to improve the relationship among both countries' people.

The status of development for superconducting techinology in the Asia/pacific region(2012)

[Project Leader]Masashi Miura(Associate Professor, Faculty of Science and Technology )

This year is the 100th anniversary of superconductivity discovery. Superconductivity has unique characteristics, perpetual current, diamagnetism and Josephson effect. Since its discovery 100 years ago, it has taken nearly half a century to elucidate its mechanism and its application has still been restricted only to fields of extreme need in thee technical level. The major reason for the delay has apparently been the "penalty of cooling" ; however, it is also due to the fact that a superconducting wire has to be a complex composite in the nanotechnology-processed structure. Also, owing to the discovery of YBCO superconductor, 20 years ago, it has recently become feasible to forecast a promising future of the superconducting technology in a log term.
In this work, we investigate the past achievements, history and the status of development for superconducting technology in the Asia/pacific region. Moreover, we create the high-quality superconducting material based on the finding of the study. Finally, we will suggest the superconductivity role energy issues and CO2 emissions.

The Intraregional Production Networks Formation and the Choice of Exchange Rate Regime in East Asia: A DSGE Model Approach (2012)

[Project Leader]Vu Tuan Khai(Assistant Professor, Faculty of Economics )

This study aims to analyze the choice of exchange rate regime in East Asia using a dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) model which incorporates the economic and trade structure in the region.
