Aiming at a new advanced field merging physics, chemistry, and biology
In the Department of Materials and Life Science, students learn the basic essentials of science: physics, chemistry, and biology in the first year. In the second year and later, they discover the conventional boundaries, where boundaries are merging, and what lies beyond; by developing their own initiatives. And by using their ability to think and create flexibly, they create future technology.
Acquired knowledge changes into wisdom through experimentation
From the first to the third year, we offer subjects involving the opportunity of many experiments: Basic Material and Life Science Laboratory, Physics and Chemistry Laboratory, Material and Life Science Laboratory I, Material and Life Science Laboratory II, Material and Life Science Laboratory III, and Material and Life Science Laboratory IV. The student can test the theoretical knowledge they have acquired in lectures and make it their own through practical experiments. Students working in small groups in experimental laboratories for their exclusive use can surely acquire ways of thinking, as well as become familiar with experimental methods.
Developing practical skills and problem-solving skills in laboratories students join in the latter half of the third year
The Department of Materials and Life Science has 14 laboratories in three fields. In the latter half of the third year, every student joins a laboratory, and in the fourth year, they conduct advanced and specialized graduation research. Through their research based on their own plans, and detailed guidance they receive from lecturers, and in discussion with seniors and peers, they develop their practical skills and problem-solving skills. All students in the department also develop essential presentation skills in a presentation meeting.
