Introduction to the Observatory
Acid Rain Monitoring
During daily scheduled observations, we check the acid rain deposition gauges installed in the observation field. When precipitation has occurred, its acidity (pH) and electrical conductivity are measured in the observation room.
The annual average (2019-2023) of precipitation measured at the observatory is slightly acidic, with a pH of 5.3. This is due to the natural pH of 5.6, which is achieved by the dissolution of atmospheric carbon dioxide, but some influence from air pollution is also present.
