Professors who are native speakers of English teach their classes in their own language. They consider their students’ English proficiency levels and interests when planning, choose appropriate textbooks and create fun, useful materials. They always prepare materials and texts carefully to help students. Native-speaker instructors ask the students to do pair work and group work. Japanese professors also teach several classes in English, such as Academic Reading, Academic Writing I, and Academic Writing II. The Department’s students are exposed to English all the time, and are encouraged to speak, read and write the language to develop strong communicative skills.
